Have you ever wondered how wooden bowls are made? Are you a turner looking to integrate turning fresh cut wood into bowls? This demonstration will cover how to turn a bowl while the wood is green. Using high speed steel bowl gouge and parting tool, Jess Hirsch will show you how to make a bowl on the lathe. She will cover material prep, turning, and how to dry + finishing techniques in the first hour of the demo. The remaining 30 minutes will be open for Q&A on turning!

About Jess Hirsch:

Jess is the founder of Fireweed Community Woodshop, a sculptor, and woodworker based in Minneapolis. She turned her first bowl in 2012 during her MFA program at the University of Minnesota. She then received the Minnesota State Arts Board Folk and Traditional Arts grant to study Sloyd (Scandinavian handcraft) with Jim Sannerud. Thats where she got her chops on the lathe and has been teaching turning at North House Folk School, Rockler, and Fireweed for the past 4 years.
