This course will give an overview of building codes and standards in the United States. We'll work to answer questions such as, what are building codes and why do we have them? Building code or building standard? ICC or NFPA? Who enforces building codes, and how is that process established? The content will likely be of interest to anyone wanting to learn more about the construction industry, the building process, or those who are home owners wanting to be better educated about their purchase.

Heidi Wagner is a professor in and program coordinator of the Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) program at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. She began her career in construction after high school, attending a technical college to study carpentry. After more than a decade in the field, Wagner earned her MS in Construction Management from NDSU and then a PhD in Design from the University of Minnesota.

This discussion will be held on Zoom so that we can take your questions live and pick Heidi's brain on all things construction! It will be recorded so you will be able to watch it for up to a month after the seminar happens.

Pricing Transparency (suggested admission of $15, our goal is to have 15 participants):
