Join us for a special BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) centered class to practice the basics of Spoon Carving!
Learn how to carve a spoon from a fresh cut tree using traditional Nordic carving techniques. We cover tree anatomy, knife holds for the hook & sloyd knife, drying, and finishing. This class is great for the beginner or the person wanting to learn Sloyd style carving. The class fee includes tool rental, materials, a finishing kit, and safety gloves. Please wear pants and close toed shoes as we are going to make some wood chips!
THIS CLASS IS INTENDED FOR FOLKS IDENTIFYING AS PEOPLE OF COLOR, please do not register if you are a white-bodied person.
* This class is limited to 10 individuals in order to offer more more interaction with peers and instructor and to prevent the spread of covid-19, please do not attend class if feeling ill, we will refund you. This course is offered as micro-reparations pricing. Fireweed Woodshop believes in wealth redistribution while our nation has still not properly paid reparations to marginalized communities.
This course will be held at Fireweed's new location in the Prospect Park neighborhood of Minneapolis. Address is TBA and will be sent out in a future confirmation email.
Course materials include: spoon blank, straight knife & hook knife rental, finishing kit, and cut proof glove rental.

Now offering sliding scale pricing! We know the pandemic has effected people in different ways and want to keep woodworking accessible. Suggested admission is $45, but we now have a $35 and $55 admission option.
