Go on a tree walk and learn how to observe the similarities and differences among the wide variety of trees growing in the city and along the river. Can you tell a conifer from a broadleaf? What do the words deciduous and evergreen really mean? Which trees prefer growing in a river floodplain over drier soils? Trees belong to families you will learn to recognize by their unique features. We will walk about 1 mile total along the East River Parkway and down by the Mississippi River as we explore a 27-tree walk loop Sarah has designed, starting and ending at Fireweed. Learn the stories of these trees and useful resources for tree identification. Learn to trace leaves for identification. This class will spark your curiosity about the world of trees--and botany--and set you on your way to creating your own personalized field guide based on your own observations.
This class will convene at the woodshop and walk to the river from there. Please wear comfortable shoes and water/snacks if needed. The shop will be closed for renovations so please take care of your bathroom needs before class!
The materials fee for this class is $5 and is included in the admission cost.
